Master Bath Remodel

Finally, our master bath remodel is so almost done.  Here are some before pictures and then there are tons and tons more.  I am so happy that bathtub is gone.  It was so big out hot water heater couldn't even fill it up.  I have to say thanks to Manolo, my Dad and uncle Steve for all the help and Eli for all her patience (it only took 6 months).  In my defense I did everything but tape and mud the drywall in all the spare time that I have.

Sunroom

Here is the completed sunroom pictures I promised.  It doesn't have heat or a/c but with the windows and door to the house open the a/c keeps the room cool in the summer.  Natalia and I love to hang out here and I think it's my favorite room in the house, after the garage of course.

Tile in Kids Bathroom

I keep doing the same thing over and over, you think I'd learn.  When Justin and Lou came to visit and we decided to tile the sun room, my first tile job, I bought a small tile saw.  Not a very expensive saw but it was sufficient for square straight cuts.  Well, I quickly realized that that saw wouldn't even come close to being able to make the kinds of cuts I had to do for this bathroom.  So I upgraded and now have two saws.  Next time I buy a cheap tool please feel free to hit me with it.  So here is that tile work in the kids bathroom.  And I have to say a big thanks to Manolo for helping me so much!

Kid's Bathroom Remodel Cont...

So this has been another long term project.  I do a little here and a little there between kids and whatnot.  So the plumbing rough-in was fun, pvc for the bathtub drains and some copper soldering for water lines.  I picked this bathtub because it's pretty big and I can fit like forty-five filthy kids in it and get baths done in a jiffy and because it was "The Devonshire" by Kohler which is the neighborhood where we live here in Indy (now all you stalkers can stalk away).  Anyway, I thought it was pretty cool.  So I set it in a concrete mud bed and insulated all the open space so the water stays nice and warm.  Did I mention what a pain in the #%@ it was getting the old cast iron tub out?

There isn't anything better than grabbing a hammer doing a "HULK SMASH" to everything.  This was the kid's bathroom before grabbing my hammer.

Kid's Bathroom Remodel

So if you haven't figured it out we are basically remodeling the whole house.  I guess that's what we get for buying an older house.  And, being Mr. Mom, gives the ADD side of me some much needed therapy.  I love my kids but a little distracion is muy bueno.

So here are some before pictures and a few during. Check back for the rest!

We decided to do this bathroom first because the tub's glazing was not sealed and had very high lead readings when it was tested. We didn't want our kids to start growing limbs and extra eyes in strange places.

By the way, anybody had the opportunity to move a 300lb cast iron tub?  Good times!

Sunroom Part 5 I guess is where these pictures are at. I need to go back and show you all my siding job in part 4

Check out this whirlwind tile job in our sunroom.  My sister and her husband came over to visit and I didn't realize he is a maniac like me and together, well, you don't want to know.  We spent some 60 hours straight, no sleep and a few Monsters later....  I forget how loopy I can get.  But the tile turned out beautifully and a few thousand cheaper than if I'd payed someone.

The Sunroom part 3

I finished the rough framing and wrapped it with Tyvec and got the flasing up for windows and windows installed.  I used replacement windows, cheaper, and so I had to buy brick moulding to put up around each window.  I also ran electrical for outlets and lights as well as a 220 service to my sub-panel in the garage that I ran from the basement through the rafters and then into the garage.

The Sunroom part 2

Here are some pictures of the rough framing taking shape.  There are twelve windows and two doors, one on either side of the room, which will provide access to the patio on one side and what will be the other patio on the other side.  I ran out of wood one day so I made the kids some chairs and a swing.

The Sunroom part 1

The Sunroom project began as a summer project but is now turning into a whole year project thanks to all of Samira's help.  We really had to do this because the sunroom that was here before was falling apart.  The wood for the walls was rotten and falling apart, the mortor the cement blocks were set in was broken and cracking, water was getting in all the time, screens were torn and on top of that we had about 30 house sparrows that were nesting in the rafters.  So the first thing I had to do was brace up the roof, the only structurally sound part of the sunroom, and knock out all the walls and cement blocks, layout the walls with the doors and windows and get my bottom plate down.  By the way, shooting nails down through the bottom plate into cement with a Ramset gun is dangerously fun.

I think I have a future woodworker on my hands.

My posting has been about as consistent as Kevin Costner's good movies, I know, but it is what it is. It isn't like I was working on some top secret project or writing a future best seller. I just haven't felt like blogging. So here's to a fresh start of sorts...

I've been working on a fence for the last few weeks. Needed something to keep Alejandro restrained and it was that or a leash :)- I seem to start projects at the first hint of spring and then battle bad weather throughout. Now we can relax without worrying if Alejandro has escaped.
