Nauvoo

This last summer we went to Nauvoo and on the way to see the temple we happened to see all these awesome cars revving their engines and pealing out down the street.  Of course we had to check it out and in this little parking lot we found some sweet rides.  Alejandro, Manolo and I were in heaven!

Bear Lake Utah 2011

I've been meaning to update the blog with some things but every time I get on here I get distracted by the soccer news and links to the right of  my blog and since I have precious few moments for blogging as it is....Well you get the picture.  Samira is still sleeping so let us see if we can't get back on track.

So, back in July We flew directly to Utah after spending a few weeks in Spain for my families reunion at Bear Lake.  The flights back were grueling with Samira but we survived somehow.  Bear Lake was fun and crazy with all the cousins and family everywhere.  The good news is that my parents are building a bigger cabin that will fit everyone!  Here are some pictures.

La merienda according to Wikipedia is:
"a light meal[1] in Southern Europe (particularly Spain), Latin America, and the Philippines. Usually taken in the afternoon or for brunch, it fills in the meal gap between lunch at noon and dinner, or between breakfast and lunch. It is a simple meal that often consists of a piece of fruit, cookies, yogurt, and other snacks paired with juice, chocolate, coffee, and other beverages."

Well, this definition doesn´t really apply to the the variety and quantity of food and beverage that was consumed in this merienda.  Does anybody know of any post Spanish vacation diets they would recommend?

El Castillo de Santa Catalina, Jaén

Here is a little driving adventure among many we managed to record while trying to get to the castle in Jaén.  There are some places where the streets are so narrow that a bigger car wouldn´t have fit.  It´s very fun driving through some of these streets.

We went to Cartagena to see a friend of Eli´s she met when she was going to the University of Granada.  We got there a little late and so we didn´t have time to see much of the city or to go to the beach but we had fun with Carmen and her husband Juan and little Juanito.

Murcia, Pool Time

Eli´s sister MariJose and her husband Leandro invited us to Leandro´s parent´s house to swim a few times.  They have a great little pool to cool off in after baking in southern Spain´s heat.  Alejandro learned how to take a deep breath and, holding onto my neck, dive into the depths of the pool.  Seriously, a pool is a must have if you live in a place like southern Spain.

Murcia, El Mar Menor

El Mar Menor
It´s not very deep and it´s separated from the rest of the Mediterranean so the water gets super warm.  Its great for the little kids but it gets super salty as well, not so great fot the kids.

Whenever we come to Spain we have to go see the Alhambra.  It´s always amazing and each time we see it from a different perspective.  This time we went to a viewing area directly across from the palaces called El Mirador de San Nicolas.  There was a guy there singing and playing flamenco music on his guitar and the experience was surreal.  It was so cool I had to record it.

It´s been a little while since I´ve been on blogger and everything is different.  Anyway, we are here in Spain, Andalucía, the south of Spain enjoying some sun and heat.  So far we´ve been to Andujar, a small farming town where Eli´s cousins live, Murcia, Cartagena and Granada and of course Jaén with Eli´s mom.  Here are a few pictures to get started.

My favorite city in Spain, Granada.  It has everything!  Mountains and skiing, beach, beautiful city, and the Alhambra.

Eli's cousins have a house out in the country near Jaén in a city called Andújar with tons of olive trees.  Her uncle recently started buying goats and selling their milk.  This trip we got there in time to see all the playful baby goats and Natalia loved giving them their bottles.

Eli and I look tired in these pictures four months or so after Natalia, our first, was born, and truth is we were exhausted.  Babies will do that to you I've heard.  Now, three kids later we aren't any bit less tired, just fully numb.  And go figure, the two people in the picture that are able to squeeze in a little snooze (my brother Steve and his wife Cristy) are the ones that also probably slept all night.

Speaking of tired, yesterday I was up with Samira from three to five in the morning and wouldn't you know it, she flat out refused to take her second nap (I actually have the magic touch and was able to get her to sleep three times in a row but each time I put her in her crib she woke right up).

More Christmas & Palm Trees

After a week at the beach we headed to Eli's sister's house in Orlando for Christmas.

Christmas and Palm Trees

Here are some more pictures of our trip to Florida over the Christmas vacation. The cold from Indiana followed us to Florida so we didn't spend as much time in the water like we usually do but it was fun anyway.

Trafalgar, IN

We went to one of Eli's co-worker's house Thanksgiving weekend which is about an hour south of Indianapolis near Brown County, a really beautiful part of Indiana.  It was cool that the house was situated on a little lake.  We had a good time relaxing and going out on the little pontoon paddle boat even though it was cold.

Friday, July 9, 2010

We went with a friend and his kids to Turkey Run State Park the other day here in Indiana.  It's about an hour and a half from Indianapolis and it's beautiful.  The only problem was all the Poison Ivy everywhere.

Florida: Last One....I Promise!

We saw this gator chillin' on the side of the road so we stopped to check it out.  I think it would be cool to have an aligator belt and so I thought about pullin' a Steve Irwin and hoppin' on but this was a good 6' gator and like I said, I was interested in a belt, not the boots to match.  So I snapped some pictures instead and headed on our way.  This aligator was lucky I didn't need any boots!

Florida: New Smyrna Beach

New Smyrna Beach was a great beach for little kids.  The water came in very far and was really shallow, perfect for little Alejandro to run around in.  Natalia and Hannah became addicted to body surfing and did really well at it (see video below).  I got my fair share of body surfing with Greg, always fun.  Except this time out in the water I got bit by a small shark.  It was a very soft bite that didn't even break the skin on my foot, kind of a feeler bite really, but it scared the crap out of me.  I figured I'd play it safe and so Greg and I moved about 20 yards down and kept on body surfing.  I later found out that New Smyrna Beach is the shark attack capital of the world.  Check out these pictures taken from New Smyrna Beach.  The good thing is that these attacks almost never result in fatalities.
